She obtained a bachelor of arts degree at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas (EAP) del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña (ICP) in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1971. The ICP granted her a scholarship for studies in Europe. From 1971 to 1974, she studied printing at the Taller de Grabado Calcográfico; Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Universidad Complutense of Madrid, Spain. In 1972, the Instituto de Cultura Hispánica of Madrid granted her a scholarship. She enrolled in goldsmith studies (1972-74) at the Taller de Artes Aplicadas y Bellos Oficios of Madrid. In 1974 she taught silkscreen and drawing courses at the Photo-Escuela in Madrid, Spain. In 1975 she enrolled in a Batik Seminar offered by Bernadette Madden in Dublin, Ireland.
